After careful evaluation, here are the ten best bike cameras for cyclists offering the best specs and features for a great value, so you can have a reliable and high performing camera without the hefty price tag:
1. Akaso EK7000 4K WiFi sports action camera
Let’s start off with the most durable bike camera that doesn’t break the bank. If you want a 4K ultra HD professional action camera with four times the resolution of your traditional action cameras, the Akaso EK7000 is in a league of its own.
It’s an Amazon’s Choice product, so you know it’s high quality and well loved by hundreds of customers. This action cam takes 12MP photos and has a capacity of 30 frames per second, plus a 170 degree wide angle setting. And, each of the two long lasting batteries can record up to 90 minutes of video.
It also comes with a wireless 2.4G wrist remote control that lets you conveniently capture high quality images and videos, and it connects via WiFi and HDMI so you can easily edit and share your photos and videos through the smart DV app. It’s durable and waterproof too!
2. Campark ACT74 4K WiFi action camera
Here’s a slightly more affordable option with the same specs and features. The Campark ACT74 is also an Amazon’s Choice 4K ultra-HD action cam with a 170 degree adjustable wide angle setting, and a 30 frames per second capacity. Although, it can take not just 12 but 16MP high resolution photos!
This one gives you a two inch HD screen that shows a stunning visual experience and a WiFi connected remote control that lets you instantly share your photos and videos to social media in real time.
It’s also waterproof up to a depth of 100 feet, making it a great action cam not just for cycling, but for underwater activities as well. Plus, it’s complete with rechargeable batteries and other accessories like helmet mounts.
Another excellent and even more affordable Amazon’s Choice action cam that’s perfect for bike rides and more is the Crosstour full-HD action camera. Its 12MP and 1080P full HD photo and video resolution, coupled with the 170 degree wide angle lens, allows you to capture great looking high quality images and videos all the time.
Out of these top three cameras, the Crosstour has, by far, the smoothest video capability, which you can easily see through its 2 inch display screen. You can also connect this to your phone or tablet via WiFi, and directly control the camera and video settings through the iSmart DV app.
Plus, it’s got a wireless remote control, an underwater capability for up to a hundred feet, and a total of 18 multifunctional accessories, so you can use this action cam when riding your bike, surfboard, and more.
4. Dragon Touch 4K WiFi waterproof action camera
Next up is a great and versatile action cam that features a 4X zoom range. This waterproof action cam by Dragon Touch is a professional 4K camera that can shoot up to 60 frames per second, a 16MP image resolution, and a 170 degree wide angle lens as well.
It’s also got a wireless wrist remote control that enables you to conveniently record important moments with ease. Plus, this two inch screen cam is WiFi enabled, and readily connects to the XDV app, where you can preview, save, and share your photos and videos at once.
The best part is, this versatile and compact sports cam supports multiple functions, including driving mode, time lapse, loop recording, image rotation, slow motion, drama shot, and so much more!
5. VSYSTO motorcycle and mountain bike dash cam
If you want an excellent camera that is made specifically for bicycles and motorcycles, this one might just be perfect for you. It’s a dual dash camera that you can install at the front and rear of your ride, or simply strap on to your handlebar- whatever you choose.
What you’ll get are two 1080P full HD cameras with a 170 degree wide angle lens and a Sony CMOS sensor, a four inch LCD display screen made of scratch resistant glass and with an 850x840 resolution, a 360 degree handlebar mounting bracket, a 64G card, GPS, and more.
It’s all waterproof and easy to use, and can be operated via the built in WiFi and mobile app. You can check and adjust your settings, view your images and videos real time, and share them to your social media channels.
6. Ehomful mini wearable wireless body camera
This is more of a special mention, but I’ve decided to include it since it looks promising and pretty useful for a variety of purposes, including, of course, bike rides. The Ehomful mini body camera is an Amazon’s Choice product that is powerful and easy to use- just plug and play!
While it’s really more of a spy cam than a dash cam in the sense that it’s significantly smaller and more discreet (not to mention you hook it on your shirt or bag, rather than the bike’s handlebar or your helmet), it offers the same specs that most action cams deliver, such as the capacity to record an HD video at 1080p and 30 frames per second.
Plus, it’s got a long lasting battery that lets you shoot for up to three continuous hours. This body cam looks, feels, and functions like a USB and an action camera in one tiny package!
7. GoPro hero 7 waterproof action camera
I know you’ve been waiting for this one, so here it is. The GoPro hero 7 action cam is yet another Amazon’s Choice product made by the most popular and well loved brand for outdoor sporting gears. It’s at the bottom half of this list, mostly because it’s the most expensive option by a long shot, but we all love it nonetheless.
The Hero 7 is a 1080P full HD action camera that lets you take high resolution 10MP photos and up to 4K 60fps videos. It also has a burst mode that captures 15 photos in one second, as well as a time lapse video option.
This intuitive touch screen camera is rugged and waterproof, easy to use with a simple tap and swipe, offers streamlined capture modes, with voice control and GPS functions, and is ultra HD ready.
8. Toogoo mini F9 HD bike helmet sport camera
Now, this one is a unique sports camera that, for once, is not shaped like a GoPro. It actually looks more like a mini flashlight. The Toogoo miniF9 helmet camera is an easy to use and affordable sports cam that offers a 120 degree shooting and viewing angle, plenty enough to cover the road ahead.
Besides, you have the option of mounting it either on your helmet or on your bike’s handlebar, so it can move along with your head and can capture pretty much what you see in front of you.
This is a 1080P full HD action cam that’s great not only for cycling, but for a lot of other outdoor sports and adventures as well, such as kayaking, surfing, and mountain climbing. It’s waterproof and vibration resistant, so it’s durable and takes great images and videos.
9. Maso front and rear motorbike camera
If you like the dual video capability of my number five pick, the motorbike cam by VSYSTO, this is a similar product that you may want to consider. Maso’s motorbike dash camera is a 1080P full HD cam with a 140 degree wide viewing angle for each cam.
The rearview camera is wireless and has a powerful high frequency digital signal transmitter with an impressive 50 meter interference free range, making it perfect not only for bicycles and motorbikes, but for larger vehicles such as cars, trailers, and buses.
The three inch display screen gives you a split screen view of both the front and rear cameras and can be operated in a multitude of languages, while the cameras themselves have a 3D detection and G-sensor functions.
Finally, I’ve got here a promising action camera from an up and coming brand, that with its specs and features, is definitely worth a try. The Vivitar DVR783HD cam is a waterproof action cam with a CMOS sensor and the capacity to take 5.1MP photos.
This is a remote control operated camera that comes with a complete set of mounting accessories, so you can hook it up on your frame, bicycle, or helmet to capture your surroundings as you ride.
It also features a 780P HD video quality and a 4X zoom range that lets you see and capture objects in the distance. Plus, the two inch LCD display is also easy to use.
Best Bike Camera for Cyclists Buying Guide
As you have seen, I included a wide variety of portable cameras on this list, so, if you’re like me, I can tell you’re also having a difficult time in selecting which one is best for you. To help you out, here are the most important things that you need to look for:
Style, size, and shape
Most action cams nowadays look like a GoPro- squarish and somewhat bulky. That’s great and all, especially if you’re looking for an all purpose outdoor cam that you can bring on lots of different adventures.
However, square cams are best mounted on your chest, or held up by a stick. If you want a cam that can be mounted on your bike handlebar or helmet, the best bet is to opt for tubular or bullet type cams, since they are lighter, don’t hinder your field of view, and don’t cause drag.
Given, bike cameras are already as portable as they come. However, it’s still important to check just how lightweight they are, including the case and mount, especially if you plan on hooking one up to your helmet, since a heavy cam may feel uncomfortable after a while.
Field of view
Most cameras of this type give you a wide angle ranging from 120 to 170 degrees, which is great since it captures as much of the scenery as possible. Although, if you’re not a fan of distorted fisheye images, you might want to opt for a cam with an adjustable angle or lens.
Photo and video quality
You’re using your camera to record, shoot, and film your surroundings, so it just goes to say that the resolution and capture quality should be high enough- ideally, 4K full HD (although they may be a little more expensive).
You should also definitely opt for a cam that can give you 1080P and 30 to 60fps in video, and at least 10MP in imagery, if you want clear and high quality shots. Video stabilization is a great feature as well. And of course, the display screen should be big and clear enough.
Features and accessories
For a bike camera for cyclists, what you really need is video stabilization, a long battery life, and low lighting shooting modes, especially if you normally ride in the evenings, on rough roads, and take part in century rides. Other features like loop recording and time lapse are great if you plan on using the camera on other outdoor activities.
When it comes to the accessories included, just make sure you’re getting batteries, chargers, cables, and mounts. Others are just a bonus. A memory card will most likely not be included, so you will have to purchase your own.
Final Verdict: The best bike camera for cyclists is…
The Akaso EK7000 4K WiFi sports action camera- it’s a high resolution, durable, and affordable sports action camera with a 4K ultra HD resolution, a 170 degree wide viewing angle, a 12MP photo and 30fps video capacity, and a 2.4G wrist remote control operation.
Plus, it’s powered by long lasting batteries that can record more than an hour of continuous video, and can be connected via WiFi and HDMI, so you can easily view, edit, and share your shots through the smart DV app that’s compatible with both Android and iOS. All in all, an excellent choice!
